Dear AJVR readers,

We are committed to promoting our junior colleagues and providing them with the recognition they deserve. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I announce the first ever AJVR Awards for the best papers published in AJVR with a student, intern, or resident author. These new awards support our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and provide an opportunity for our senior authors to publicly recognize the contributions of their students, interns, and residents. This strategic initiative is yet another way we can promote the mission of the AVMA while supporting the profession and our early career colleagues.

Winners will not only receive profession-wide recognition, they will also earn a Certificate of Achievement and win a cash prize. Winners will also benefit from great social media exposure!

Here are the details:

  • Anyone can nominate an author whose original research paper was submitted when they were a veterinary student, intern, or resident

  • A total of six $500 awards will be made (2 students, 2 interns, 2 residents)

  • Each award recipient will receive a waiver of Open Access fees for their next authored manuscript in AJVR

  • Deadlines for 2022 awards is June 30, 2022

Please send your nominations to AJVR@avma.org by June 30, 2022 by submitting the following information:

  • Nominee’s name

  • Nominee category (student, intern, or resident)

  • Manuscript title and publication date

The awards committee of the Associate Editor Board will select the winners based on novel and significant contributions to the veterinary profession.

Winners will be announced during the Annual Convention in Philadelphia.

We look forward to receiving your nominations and to starting what will become an annual tradition of recognizing our promising students, interns and residents and house officer authors.

Respectfully,

Dr. Lisa A. Fortier
