Published: 31 Mar 2022

The AVMA and Viticus Group, the organization behind the WVC conference, announced on March 7 that they are partnering on a new collaboration to enhance opportunities for continuing education for the entire veterinary team, bringing together the AVMA’s digital education platform and Viticus Group’s hands-on training programs.

Dr. José Arce, AVMA president, said: “AVMA and Viticus Group have a shared passion for providing top-notch CE for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other veterinary staff and we are excited to launch this partnership. This innovative new collaboration will couple the AVMA’s renowned Axon platform with Viticus’ strong hands-on programs to offer participants from across the veterinary team exceptional learning experiences.”

Dr. Brian Poteet, president of Viticus Group, said: “It is perfect timing to announce this exciting new partnership with AVMA as we host the 94th Annual WVC Conference in Las Vegas. Together, our two organizations will leverage each other’s strengths to meet the rapidly evolving and diverse CE needs of our colleagues across the profession.”

Examples of new curricula for veterinarians and veterinary technicians that will combine virtual and hands-on components include courses throughout the year on topics such as dentistry and ultrasonography. Other offerings through this new partnership will include continuing education during the WVC Annual Conference and the AVMA Convention and an Early Career Bootcamp set to take place in June on-site at the Viticus Center.

The organization that is now Viticus Group was founded in 1928 in Logan, Utah, as the Intermountain Livestock Sanitary Association and was renamed as the Western Veterinary Conference in 1965, then as WVC in 2014. The organization was renamed as Viticus Group in 2020, reflecting its expansion to education in human health, while the annual conference remains WVC.
