History

A 5-year-old male white carneau pigeon was housed in a research colony at Purdue University since June 22, 2011, for participation in an associative symmetry study.1 The experiment ran for approximately a year starting March 2012, during which time the bird had feed restrictions, but no invasive procedures were performed. The bird's health had been deteriorating for approximately 1 month prior to euthanasia (by means of injectable pentobarbital solution) and necropsy on March 14, 2014.

Clinical and Gross Findings

Behaviorally, the bird was lethargic and would often sit toward the back of its cage with its wings
